GWWT-S-A Series Active Wireless Temperature Sensors
Product Desc
- GoWatron GWWT-S-A Series Active Wireless Temperature Sensors provide online temperature monitoring of critical points in switchgear, busbars, cable joints, external transformer terminals and industrial equipment, helping users detect abnormal heating and make informed maintenance decisions. Installed at the measurement points, the sensors transmit temperature data wirelessly to a compatible receiver. Together with a monitoring platform, the receiver enables centralised temperature display, historical trend analysis and overtemperature alarms, improving coverage at locations that cannot be continuously monitored through manual inspections.
- The series primarily uses lithium thionyl chloride batteries. Battery-powered models operate independently of the current flowing through the monitored conductor, making them particularly suitable for low-current circuits, intermittently operated equipment, standby circuits and measurement points where reliable CT energy harvesting is unavailable. No temperature signal cabling is required between the sensors and the receiver, simplifying deployment in new installations and retrofitting existing equipment. The series offers several mounting arrangements, a high-temperature model and a multi-channel model for low-voltage applications.

1. Product Introduction
- The GWWT-S-A series integrates temperature sensing, a power supply and wireless communication. The sensors serve as field data acquisition devices within a wireless temperature monitoring system and require a compatible wireless receiver, referred to below as the receiver.
- During installation, the sensing element must maintain reliable thermal contact with the measured surface. Strap mounting, magnetic mounting or screw fixing should be selected according to the equipment construction. Installation on electrical equipment must maintain the required electrical clearances, creepage distances and secure mechanical fixing.
- Model selection should consider the measurement range, available installation space, mounting method, wireless communication configuration and power supply requirements. The GWWT-S-A-LV-MC supports both lithium thionyl chloride battery power and current transformer (CT) energy harvesting. Its number of temperature measurement channels and power supply configuration are specified according to project requirements.

Technical Specifications

Note: The high-temperature measurement range applies to the sensing probe, not to the permissible ambient temperature of the wireless transmitter. Wireless communication must be compatible with the receiver. Metal enclosures, obstructions, antenna positioning and interference can affect transmission distance.
2. Main Functions
Temperature Data Acquisition
- Measures temperature at each monitoring point, providing data for assessing local temperature rises and abnormal heating. The readings support investigation of potential problems such as poor electrical contact and loose connections.
Configurable Data Transmission Interval
- Allows the data transmission interval to be adjusted to suit monitoring requirements. For battery-powered models, shorter intervals generally increase power consumption and reduce battery life.
Measurement Point Identification and Centralised Acquisition
- On-site sensor address configuration distinguishes individual sensors, allowing the receiver to associate temperature readings with specific cubicles, circuits or installation positions and manage multiple measurement points centrally.
Support for Temperature Recording and Alarms
- Supplies temperature data to the receiver for use by the monitoring platform. Depending on the system configuration, historical records, trend analysis and overtemperature alarms are provided by the receiver or monitoring platform.
3. Applications
High-Voltage and Low-Voltage Switchgear and Ring Main Units
- Suitable for monitoring busbar joints, cable terminations, disconnector connections and circuit-breaker connection points with sufficient space and electrical clearance for sensor installation within high-voltage and low-voltage switchgear, ring main units and distribution boards.
Busbars, Cables and Distribution Connections
- Suitable for copper busbar joints, cable joints, electrical terminals and busbar trunking joints, helping identify abnormal heating associated with loose connections or increased contact resistance.
Transformers and Compact Substations
- Suitable for external transformer terminals, bushing terminal connections, and busbar and cable connections within compact substations. Outdoor model selection should account for rain, solar exposure, ambient temperature and mounting surface conditions.
Low-Current, Standby and Intermittently Operated Circuits
- Battery-powered models are suitable for lightly loaded circuits, standby bays, intermittently operated equipment and measurement points where conductor current is insufficient for reliable CT energy harvesting. Temperature acquisition can continue when the circuit carries no load current.
Multi-Point Monitoring in Low-Voltage Switchgear
- The GWWT-S-A-LV-MC is suitable for monitoring multiple connection points within low-voltage incomer, outgoing feeder and other distribution cubicles. The measurement channel configuration should be selected according to the number of monitoring points, cubicle construction and power supply arrangements.
Boilers and High-Temperature Industrial Equipment
- The GWWT-S-A-HT is suitable for boilers, industrial heating equipment and other high-temperature measurement points. Selection should consider the probe type, mounting arrangement and the surface or medium being measured. The wireless transmitter must be positioned within its permissible operating temperature range.
Power Generation, Utility and Industrial Distribution Facilities
- Suitable for electrical distribution equipment in substations, power plants, industrial and mining facilities, commercial buildings and public facilities. The sensors can also be used at electrical connection points in data centres, solar PV plants and wind farms where installation requirements are met.
Temperature Monitoring Retrofits
- Suitable for adding temperature monitoring to existing switchgear, distribution equipment and industrial installations, particularly where additional temperature signal cabling is difficult to install. Receiver positioning should account for signal attenuation caused by metal enclosures, measurement point locations and wireless coverage.
Application note: Suitability depends on the selected model, measurement range, environmental protection and installation conditions. For use on high-voltage equipment, verify the insulation requirements, electrical clearances and creepage distances.
